Today I had a conversation with one of my community members (who was decluttering), which may be of use to you. The question was…
Member: “How not to be affected by waste and environmental issues…? As in throwing out so much paper, metal and plastics, more and more “you’ve done something to affect the planet” thoughts come up.”
Cindy: “Is that really being affected by waste environmental issues? –or is it being affected by something else?
What am I asking to you do here?”
Member: “To look and see what’s actually affecting me.”
Cindy: “Yes. By getting real.” (I teach members how to use the five powers we possess to do this.)
Member: “I can tell the difference between reality and thought, yes.”
Cindy: “Good. Then you know that the waste is not causing your mental emotional pain… it’s causing something else.”
(It’s the contracted, unconscious dreaming of thoughts ((with content about environmental waste)) that is affecting the member, not environmental damage.)
Many people think they need to mentally suffer to take care of things.
However, it’s never mental suffering that takes care of things, it’s intelligence. We have the intelligence to know what is damaging or not, without mentally suffering.
And it’s when unconsciously dreaming the mind that we have LEAST access to intelligence.
To dream is to be limited to the dream, to lose contact with reality and all of its vast and positive possibilities.
All that mental dreaming and suffering does is make everything worse.
Isn’t it real that I am contributing to a real problem though?”
Cindy: “What is causing that which you don’t want (the mental stress) now? Which wasn’t there just minutes before?”
Member: “The mind. Content of thought is not real because thought isn’t real, I get that.
Isn’t it real that I am contributing to a real problem though?”
Cindy: “Separate. You are confusing two things that are not the same.”
Member: “Correct!”
Cindy: “Nobody can be NOT be affected by environmental or waste issues, that is, nobody can be NOT actually be affected by the environment itself.
But that is not what is affecting you here and now. That is not what you are concerned about now.
What you mean by “affect” is mental pain, not an actual affect by environmental issues.
What you are affected by is the mind, not the waste and environmental issues.
Unconsciously suffering the mind is what causes our actual waste and environmental issues.
So in order to be of any help, you must stop suffering mind, you must stop affecting yourself with the mind.”
By the way, the fact that those objects already exist is already the real environmental problem. Not what you are now doing with them.
Though you can do your best to reduce, reuse and recycle.”
Member: “Which I am! I have been gifting, repurposing, reusing, relocating, donating. I could do even better, I’m sure.
Cindy: “That’s great.”
Unconsciously suffering the mind is what causes our actual waste and environmental issues.
Member: “You said, “Unconsciously suffering the mind is what causes our actual waste and environmental issues… How? How is it causing that?”
Cindy: “We are unconsciously producing and consuming what we don’t need. We are unconsciously throwing things out instead of reducing reusing and recycling.
I saw a program last night that said the average house had 300,000 objects in it. That is mind-blowing.
Now, the best thing and the only thing we should ever really throw out is the unconsciousness and suffering. Do that while you’re at it.”
Member: “On it! Thank you! And I will use this experience to be a lot more of a “conscious “consumer. This was a big eye-opener!”
BONUS: This is, in fact, how not to be affected …by anything!
Fill in the blank… How not to be affected by “x”… whatever it is, “x” is not what’s affecting you mentally emotionally.
What is affecting you is the mind–but not the mind alone.
Because it’s not even the content of the mind (story in the mind) –which is even less real than the ephemeral thought that carries it–that is causes pain, anger, insult, fear, or hurt.
It’s always unconscious dreaming which causes the pain.
When we dream, we think or believe and experience as if “x” (content or story of mind) is what’s causing our pain.
What it means to fall unconscious
But in fact and reality, it never is. Falling for the content of thought, rather than waking up to the fact of thought, is what it means to fall unconscious.
Getting real is the greatest and single solution to all “problems.”
It is the way out of unconsciousness–a return to sanity, and peace.
