Dear Self: So something I’d like to discuss just came up for me tonight. I thought I’d made great progress in my process of learning what forgiveness is through ACIM. Then the same old grievance resurfaced tonight at full force once again as though I’ve never done any work on it at all.
Cindy Teevens Yes, forgiveness only truly happens if you realize that what you thought happened never happened.
Cindy Teevens Otherwise its just a nice spiritual thought.
Questioner: See – that sounds like a concept – what does nothing happened mean?
Cindy Teevens Oh its the furthest thing from a concept. You see, what actually happened (short of physical injury) never hurts. It’s the thought we have about what happened, that hurts. And that thought did not come from the other, so they never hurt us. This is most powerfully realized if you give yourself what you think you want the other person to give you.
Cindy Teevens When you do that, it shifts your state, and your whole perception shifts. It is your perception, or (mis)perception that hurts.
Questioner: thank you
Cindy Teevens welcome:)
NOTE: Someone asked me how long this person had been a student of ACIM (A Course in Miracles). I do not know, but no matter how long you have been a student of ACIM, or how long you have studied forgiveness, you don’t *know* what “it never happened” really means, until you have had the tangible experience. Just thinking “it never happened” or “I forgive you” then becomes a form of denial, and does not work.
Dear Self Facebook Group
Dear Self is a facebook group, a community of sincere seekers.
You are seeking answers to why you feel, act, and react the way you do, or maybe you are even questioning who you are. When the student is ready, the teacher appears (to appear). No matter where answers appear to come from–your mentor, a book, your friend, enemy, dog, or a tree–ultimately, they come from within, from your Self. So ask away, because the Truth is available, here and now. Welcome to the catalystic conversation that can unveil it.

Perhaps you’ve noticed that no matter how hard you try, you can’t stop thoughts, and you are not impressed with many of them. Disillusioned with the temporary material world, you might be asking, “Is this really all there is to life?” You may feel empty and frustrated, perhaps with a sense that something is off, or missing. The big questions, “Why am I here, how did I get here, where do I go from here?” may be arising. You can ask these questions, and more, here. You are not necessarily religious, yet you sense there must be something more, and you might even use the word spiritual. Maybe you’ve heard of the cosmic joke, awakening, or enlightenment, but it all sounds like Greek to you.
Yet still, there must be more…Something real, and true, and lasting.
There is. It is awaiting your recognition.
